California Rantings

Monday, Mar. 21, 2005 - 3:59 p.m.

So last night I was flipping through the channels when some God forsaken US@ channel movie about an earthquake in California was on. I HATE movies about earthquakes in CA. Not because I fear "the big one" but because apparently Hollywood has no idea what earthquakes are like.

First off...they do not last 5-10 mins. Even HUGE earthquakes do not rattle and quake for more than a min.

Second...west coast TV stations start with "K", not "W", so what in the hell "WMKZ" (or whatever) was doing covering the Bay Bridge during commute hour traffic reports is beyond me. (And a side vent on this one...at 5:30 on a Monday, there are NO CARS zipping by on any bridge in the Bay Area).

Third...people who grew up in CA have a grasp of what to do during an emergency like an earthquake. It is common sense not to get on an elevator if you are on the 12th floor, and no one stands near glass windows "looking down" on the earth as it "rolls" down the street.

We also do not stand around afterward on our cellphones waiting for "service to be returned." With no clue how to communicate "with the rest of the world."
